Free Star Pattern!

Free Star Pattern

I have made another free pattern! Yay! My husband wanted a videogame inspired Christmas tree this year (since my son and I did the Legend of Zelda costumes for Halloween), so I made a cute star for the top of our tree. When I get more time, I want to make more ornaments for the tree, but this will do for now.
So here it is:

Acrylic yarn in yellow, black and white
Size H crochet hook
Stitch marker
Polyfil
Tapestry needle

Directions:
Star: (make 2)
Row 1 – Using yellow yarn and magic ring method, 5 sc in ring. Pull tail to close the ring. Place st marker to mark the beginning of the row (5)

Row 2 – Inc 5 times, crocheting in a round (10)
Row 3 – (Sc, inc) 5 times (15)
Row 4 – (2 sc, inc) 5 times (20)
Row 5 – (3 sc, inc) 5 times (25)
Row 6 – (4 sc, inc) 5 times (30)
Row 7 – (5 sc, inc) 5 times (35)
Row 8 – (6 sc, inc) 5 times (40)
Row 9 – (7 sc, inc) 5 times (45)
Row 10 – (8 sc, inc) 5 times (50)
Row 11 – (Stop crocheting in a round) 10 sc, ch 1, turn (10)

Row 12 – 10 sc. Ch 1, turn (10)

Row 13 – Dec, 6 sc, dec.  Ch 1, turn (8)
Row 14 – 8 sc. Ch 1, turn (8)
Row 15 – Dec, 4 sc, dec. Ch 1, turn (6)
Row 16 – 6 sc. Ch 1, turn (6)
Row 17 – Dec, 2 sc, dec. Ch 1, turn (4)
Row 18 – 4 sc. Ch 1, turn (4)
Row 19 – 2 dec. Ch 1, turn (2)
Row 20 – 2 sc. Ch 1, turn (2)
Row 21 – Dec. Bind off

Attach yarn in the next st.

Repeat rows 11 through 21 four more times (5 points). Single crochet around the perimeter of the star.

Sl st to close.
With wrong sides facing eachother, sew the two sides together using the tails from the points.

When there is only one point left to sew together, start stuffing the star with polyfil.

Finish sewing up the rest.

Eyes: (make 2)
Using black yarn, ch 4. Sc in second ch from hook, sc in next st, 3 sc in last st. Keep crocheting in a round instead of turning your work. Sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Sl st in 1st sc to close.  Bind off.

Eye highlight: (make 2)
Using white yarn, 4 sc in magic ring. Sl st in 1st sc to close. Bind off.
Sew eyes onto the star, then sew the highlights onto the eyes.

If you want to hang it on your Christmas tree like I did, crochet a band to go across the back:
Ch 11, sc in 2nd ch from the hook. Sc 9, ch 1, turn. (10)
*10 sc across, ch1, turn. Repeat from * 2 more times (10)
10 sc across (10)
 Bind off.

Sew horizontally on the back of the star just on the sides.
Enjoy! And Happy Holidays!
XOXO
